Working mostly with a reduced pallet and stark contrasts, Kate Mosher Hall’s paintings inhabit a shifting space between representation and abstraction, where images seem to emerge only to recede from recognition. Often working from found digital imagery, Mosher Hall bridges the digital and analog via silkscreen, expanding on the languages of reproduction, layering, and optical effects. At once familiar and elusive, Mosher Hall’s paintings carry traces of something seen or remembered, yet resist settling on a fixed subject. This tension between recognition and uncertainty is central to her practice. Rather than offering a straightforward image to be read, Mosher Hall makes the experience of looking a central pillar of her work. The viewer is invited into a sustained encounter in which perception and understanding continually adjust and recalibrate.
