MOUTH

MOUTH presents a new sculpture by Sarah Friend, woven from data-centre materials: internet cables, patch panels, aluminium and hundreds of zip ties. Working between contemporary art and software development, Friend transforms the hidden infrastructure of the digital world into a dense, bodily form. What once transmitted information is stripped of its function and reassembled into something that hovers between machine and organism. It could be read as a mouth, a skull, an insect, a nervous system, or a cluster of exposed organs. The cables become veins, muscles and intestines, while rows of white zip ties resemble teeth, hair or spines. In an era increasingly shaped by invisible networks and artificial intelligence, MOUTH reminds us that every digital system ultimately depends on material, labour and the human hand.
