With False Skies, Lena Keller makes the moment of seeing the starting point for a new body of work. Transparent layers of oil paint, glazes and iridescent fields of light form landscapes in which horizons and vegetation remain present yet resist clear definition. A reflection begins to detach from its object; a fleeting impression becomes a shifting pictorial space.

Keller’s paintings explore landscape not simply as a motif, but as an experience shaped by attention, memory and transformation. In a world saturated with images, they resist the speed of fleeting looking, inviting a more deliberate encounter. The eye recognizes and loses its hold at once: what remains is less the image of a particular place than the sense of having truly seen it, for a moment.
