RARE EARTHS, REAL BOOKS

“Out of this world, we cannot fall.” On solitary walks, Emanuel Rossetti photographs peripheral urban environments through a fisheye lens, creating a fictional separation between photographer and landscape. His prints of coastlines, beaches, puddles, and reflective facades are fixed behind glass, mirroring the arrested moment between wet and dry in analogue photography. Mark von Schlegell’s paintings emerge from solitary writing practice surrounded by books, rare paperbacks, and Tarot. Created with modest materials, these works function as private icons that, when viewed in series alongside the REAL / BOOKS catalogue, punctuate meaning like sentences. His work explores how supplementary materials complete yet simultaneously replace supposedly whole artworks, echoing Tarot’s reliance on interpretive keys. — Erika Landström
