Düsseldorf, August 2026. As part of DC Open, ANNA LAUDEL Düsseldorf presents ALLEZ GUT, a new solo exhibition by Berlin- based artist Lennart Brede. The gallery weekend is one of the key art events in the Rhineland and traditionally marks the beginning of the new exhibition season.

At first glance, the exhibition title reads like a casual, everyday phrase. In fact, ALLEZ GUT expresses an attitude rooted in confidence and responsibility. At a time of growing uncertainty, the title articulates a conscious decision not to abandon the belief in what is good. The exhibition begins where familiar certainties lose their sense of permanence.

At its center is the figure of the Broken Knight of Abendland. Deeply rooted in European cultural history, the knight appears neither as a warrior nor a victor, but in a moment of vulnerability. Kneeling with his face buried in his hands, his armor is both fragmented and held together by geometric forms. The figure embodies a state between strength and exhaustion, protection and uncertainty. In his fractured appearance, the knight becomes a symbol of a present that questions established certainties without abandoning the desire for orientation and cohesion.

For Brede, the knight becomes the embodiment of a contemporary hero’s journey. The defining moment is not victory, but the instant in which the armor must be shed. Only then does a new encounter become possible: with oneself, with others, and with one’s own history.

This transformation continues throughout the other bodies of work in the exhibition. Metallic forms turn into blossoms, armor into plants. Photographs leave the two-dimensional surface and take shape as tapestries, glass works, and sculptural objects. The floral motifs are closely connected to the artist’s biography. Coming from a family of florists, Brede understands flowers not as decoration, but as companions to human experiences such as love, loss, farewell, and new beginnings.

ALLEZ GUT is a call to move forward. It asks what kind of attitude we need in the face of uncertainty and change. The works offer no simple answers. Instead, they point to the possibility that responsibility begins when we are prepared to question familiar certainties.
