Contemporary Printmaking

Druckgrafik wirkt historisch.

Printmaking looks historical. The names that come to mind are Dürer, Rembrandt, Goya, rarely a living artist. Contemporary Printmaking shows the opposite.
The medium is younger than its reputation. In the West it appears in the late 14th century, while painting reaches back tens of thousands of years. And it is still the medium in which artists work together most closely: technique gets passed on, two hands work the same plate, motifs layer over one another. That is where the issue starts.
It was made together with EMIK, out of journalistic and curatorial work at once. Eight artists have their say, six writers respond. 136 pages, German and English throughout, 20 euros plus shipping.
For more, there is the special edition: two hand printed motifs, designed together by Donna Volta Newman, Jonas Liesaus and Christoph Tschernatsch. Ten prints of each motif. Together with the magazine, 100 euros.
